Cultural Differences = Cultural Problems?

To introduce this week's topic, I would like you all to watch the first 2 minutes of this video. You can watch the whole video but the first two minutes or so shows good examples of cultural differences.

Video about cultural differences

Although a bit more extreme than what you would normally see, I think this video shows just how important a role cultural plays in our everyday lives.

Culture is often compared to that of an iceberg. That which is visible is only a small part, it is much deeper and more influential than just how we look or dress.

For some of the participants taking this course, part of your job is to communicate with students from around the world. For many of these students, it will be their first time studying abroad or studying in Japan. Due to the fact that many exchange students come from a culture that is different from Japan, their cultural expectations and differences can lead to many problems in their studies and daily lives.

This weeks's question:

Should people freely accept all cultural differences? If yes, why? If no, why not? What are your thoughts?

Bonus question: To which group does this flower best match with? Group A or Group B?
