Historic Kyoto temple first in Japan to offer gay weddings

Although still not legal, Shunkoin Temple in Kyoto joins the slowly growing list of places that are holding same sex weddings.

Shunkoin temple is run by priest Takafumi Kawakami. He says of their wedding services, “We welcome every couple regardless of their faith or sexual orientation.”

Even though Shunkoin Temple is the first temple to offer gay ceremonies, they are not the only place same sex couples can go to celebrate their special day.

As of last year, Tokyo Disneyland started offering same sex ceremonies as well.

This story became quite popular last year when several news outlets wrote articles on the couple's ceremony. Despite manga cafes being filled with comics depicting same sex couples in a variety of situations, this topic is still considered taboo.  (Mike)
