Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween
This Saturday is Halloween and on this day ghosts and spirits will come to our planet to kidnap humans. The only way to stop them is to wear a scary mask and make a lantern carved out of turnip.   Now, we know that this isn't true however this is what some people used to believe would happen to them if they did not wear a costume. This is part of the reason why people often dress up and wear costumes on Halloween.   The history of Halloween is very long and complicated. Halloween comes from a variety of holidays from many different cultures. According to Wikipedia, the Pagan holiday Samhair was replaced by the Wiccan holiday Day of the Dead as well as the Christian holiday All Saints Day. From this mix of holidays along with the mixing of cultures modern day Halloween with its costumes and trick or treating was created.   Below is a YouTube video created by National Geographic briefly explaining the history of Halloween. If you have a few minutes, please check it out and learn a few things about this fun holiday. There is also a very interesting explanation on the history of Trick or Treating.      (Mike)
